What to Expect on This Route
We run this route every single day. The N8 highway from Marrakech to Essaouira is one of the best-maintained roads in Morocco — smooth tarmac, clear markings, and very few potholes. The drive takes you through the countryside south of Marrakech, past argan tree forests (you'll see goats climbing the trees — it's real), and through a handful of small towns including Chichaoua.
The last 30 minutes is particularly beautiful as you approach the Atlantic coast. You'll start smelling the ocean before you see it. Our drivers know this road like the back of their hand — they've driven it thousands of times.
Road conditions: Well-maintained two-lane highway. Some sections have overtaking lanes. The speed limit is 80-100 km/h depending on the section. The road can be windy near the coast, but it's safe and well-signposted.
