The drive south from Marrakech starts flat and easy, crossing the Haouz plain past olive groves and the market town of Tnine Ourika. After about 45 minutes the R203 meets the Ourika River and begins to follow it upstream — the landscape turns green almost at once, with poplar trees, terraced gardens and Berber villages built into the hillsides.
As you climb the valley the air cools noticeably — Ourika is a favourite summer escape for Marrakchis for exactly this reason. The road ends at Setti Fatma, a small village known for its seven waterfalls, the Sept Cascades, and its riverside restaurants where tables are set right in the shallow, running water.
