What to Expect on This Route
The journey leaves Tangier and heads south on the N2 toward Tetouan, the whitewashed city at the foot of the Rif, which you reach in about 40 minutes. From there the landscape changes — olive groves, cork forests and green hillsides replace the coast.
After Tetouan the road climbs steadily into the Rif mountains. The final stretch winds up forested slopes before Chefchaouen appears, its blue-painted houses stacked against the grey rock of Jebel el-Kelaa. By the time you arrive, the sea and the ferry feel a world away.
Important: The N2 is paved the whole way, but the mountain section is winding with a few switchbacks. If you're prone to car sickness, take medication before departure. Our drivers know the road well and take the curves gently.
